Strategic Technology Planning

Utilize our consulting services by outsourcing your IT Strategic Planning with our complete Information Technology package. Our IT services are available throughout Mainland United Kingdom.

Computer technology has been advancing so rapidly, and with such a short life span, that strategic technology planning is essential. It must also be aligned with the development of the overall strategic business plan. Without considering the technology plan, several business strategies may not be achievable.

The strategic technology plans created by SMR tell our clients their current technical capability, and how it fits in with their strategic business plan. The plan also informs them of their business risk due to technical failures and how the IT organization is performing overall.

The technology plan provides the business with a roadmap on where, when and how IT investment pound (£) should be spent.

Each plan contains the following sections:

Information Technology Strategic Planning
Quarterly projections over a three year period:
technology equipment stated in present value pound (£)
new technology equipment and upgrades stated in present value pound (£)
software and licenses stated in present value pound (£)
new software and upgrades stated in present value pound (£)
      ongoing maintenance support hours
new project support hours estimated by project
total fulltime equivalent IT support hours

Technology Assessment
During assessment, the client’s technology is compared with their business goals. An evaluation is made on what new technology is needed to ensure success with the client’s strategic business plans.

SMR team of professionals, with both business and technical expertise, identify where technology shortfalls exist and recommends appropriate action.

Management
The larger a network is, the more possible failure points it has with a greater chance of catastrophic system breakdown. SMR minimizes technology risks by planning for disaster.
Failure points are identified and the ones that are controllable are eliminated by these tasks:
      Develop organizational security policies
      Create disaster recovery plans
Prepare capacity plans for system resource utilization
      Develop end-user usage policies
Plan software and hardware upgrades and updates
Procure technology products from the list of approved vendors
Review IT performance measures for system improvements

IT Performance Planning
The plan tracks established performance measures on a quarterly basis to ensure that the IT investment is contributing at the rate expected. Recommendations for improvements are made in areas where performance has fallen to a marginal or sub-par level.
